Grand Theatre Presents “The Full Monty”

Salt Lake Community College’s Grand Theatre will host a professional production of “The Full Monty” May 12-June 4. David Schmidt is directing this new production of an award-winning musical. Shows will run Thu-Sat at 7:30 p.m. each night and also on Saturdays at 2 p.m. The Grand is located at SLCC’s South City Campus, 1575 South State Street in Salt Lake City. Based on the 1997 film, the story takes place in Buffalo, New York and centers around six unemployed steel workers. Out of work and feeling emasculated and unappreciated by the women in their lives, the men come up with a bold way to make some quick cash by becoming exotic male dancers. As they conquer their self-consciousness, fears and prejudices, the men come to discover that there’s more to being a “MAN” than just having a job and a healthy libido. “The Full Monty” is a hilariously funny, yet sensitive story about marriage, love and friendship and features upbeat 90s pop-style music. This show is rated “MATURE” due to its adult language, adult content and brief nudity.

“The Full Monty” was nominated for several Tony Awards in 2001 (including Best Musical) and won the prestigious Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Music. The show first premiered at The Old Globe theatre in San Diego in 2000 and ran for two years on Broadway with over 750 performances.

Salt Lake Community College’s annual Undergraduate Projects, Performances, Presentations, and Research Conference (UP3RC) is set to take place on April 2, at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus, offering students a chance to showcase their academic achievements, fostering a culture of intellectual exchange. The UP3RC is an annual event designed to celebrate and highlight the academic accomplishments of undergraduate students. It provides a supportive environment for students to share their work, hone their presentations skills, receive constructive feedback, and engage in meaningful discussions with their peers and faculty.
