SLCC wins award at Utah Latin Expo

Salt Lake Community College won the Award of Excellence in the education category February 28 during the annual Utah Latin Expo at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City.

SLCC competed with other public and private colleges and universities for the award, which recognizes how well a school serves Utah’s Hispanic population. Expo attendees voted during the event on the winner.

“With this award we are being recognized by community leaders, politicians, entrepreneurs and others for being the educational institution that is giving superior service to the Hispanic population,” said Enrique Soto, who, in the College’s Institutional Marketing and Communications department, organizes outreach efforts into Utah’s Latino community. “We have so many locations, resources, clubs and programs to help support Hispanics.”

Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes and Utah’s Mexican Consul Eduardo Arnal Palomera were among the event’s attendees, along with several Hispanic media representing television, radio and newspapers.

SLCC’s involvement in the Expo helps increase awareness in the Hispanic community about all of the programs and services the College has to offer that are specific to Latinos.

Salt Lake Community College’s annual Undergraduate Projects, Performances, Presentations, and Research Conference (UP3RC) is set to take place on April 2, at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus, offering students a chance to showcase their academic achievements, fostering a culture of intellectual exchange. The UP3RC is an annual event designed to celebrate and highlight the academic accomplishments of undergraduate students. It provides a supportive environment for students to share their work, hone their presentations skills, receive constructive feedback, and engage in meaningful discussions with their peers and faculty.
