Earth Dance 2013



Salt Lake Community College Dance Company has gathered faculty and community choreographers, and the best of student choreography to perform in their Spring concert titled, EarthDance.  This concert features dances that are inspired by the natural world around us, forces of nature, and elements of the earth.  This is a multi-media performance with projected images and film coordinated with live dance.    Community professionals, such as Rosie Banchero, Ashley Mott, Erica Womack, and SLCC dance faculty are presenting their choreography on Friday and Saturday, April 12 & 13, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. in the Grand Theater, 1575 South State Street.  Tickets are $8 or HALF PRICE if two non-perishable food items are brought in for the Utah Food Bank.  SLCC students and staff receive FREE admission with a current SLCC I.D. and 2 food items.   For tickets, call the Grand Theater box office: 957-3322.

Rosie Banchero, African dance specialist and SLCC faculty, has set a contemporary African piece on the company, with a ritualistic feel and live drummers.  SLCC faculty, Ashley Mott is creating multi-media dances inspired by seasons of the year and water movement.  Choreography by faculty Erica Womack, and company director, Tess Boone, will also be showcased.  In addition, the best of student choreography will be featured, including hip hop and contemporary dance.

About this performance, Tess Boone, company director and Associate Professor of Dance explained, “This concert is about the dynamics of nature.  The universe is expanding, thunder and lightning are not static, the ocean is always in motion.  This theme is effective for choreography for this reason.  The audience will experience a great deal of variety in movement and music, with an exciting digital component. ”

SLCC's Undergraduate Annual Research Conference Registration Deadline

Salt Lake Community College’s annual Undergraduate Projects, Performances, Presentations, and Research Conference (UP3RC) is set to take place on April 2, at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus, offering students a chance to showcase their academic achievements, fostering a culture of intellectual exchange.  The UP3RC is an annual event designed to celebrate and highlight the academic accomplishments of undergraduate students. It provides a supportive environment for students to share their work, hone their presentations skills, receive constructive feedback, and engage in meaningful discussions with their peers and faculty. You’re Invited to A Party! Open House Kicks off New Herriman Campus

  Complimentary food truck fare, live music, and family activities spotlight new campus.   There’s something for everyone at the upcoming Herriman Campus Community Open House on Friday, August 4 (3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.).
